So are there really any affordable hotels in Paris?

The web is meant to make travel easy, but finding a hotel is tough. So many sites are just booking agents, and you can't get a feel for anything. It seems that often it is not possible to contact the hotel directly. Is the hotel friendly? Is it crap? Will they just take your deposit, then say sorry, booked out when you arrive? We are looking at spending a week in Paris in November. Two of us and our 11y.o. daughter. Seems pets are generally welcome, but we are not sure about our daughter. Love to hear any suggestions for a budget one or two star stay. Thanks, Ian

well definitely Paris is one of the most expensive holidays destinations, but for sure u can find affordable places to crash....
